Chuck teases new SP music possibly “soon”

An interview Chuck and Sebastien did at Calgary Stampede back in July, was just recently published on UnderTheRockies.com. In this interview, the two members of Simple Plan discussed various subjects from their band’s longevity, their setlist, collaborations and music videos – mostly stuff that we’ve all already heard about.

But the final question of the interview did give us a tiny look at what the band might be already planning for the upcoming months. Check it out:

What do you guys have planned for the rest of the year?

Sebastien: Trying to find as many Pokemon as I can. Just kidding, touring. It hit me recently because we’ve been announcing a lot of cool tour dates, we’re going to Mexico, we’re going to Australia, southeast Asia, we’ve got the big U.S and Canadian tour coming up, and I looked at the poster and called my mom and said, “see you at Christmas!” because we’re basically busy until Christmas.

Chuck: I think we have 45 or 50 shows until the end of the year, so it’s a lot but it’s gonna be awesome. It’s all about going to see the fans and playing them the new songs and the old songs, and next year I think more touring. And maybe some new music at some point in all that. We’re working on that.

Now, let’s break that down. Surely we cannot expect the band to come up with a new record in the next couple of months but as you can see, it looks like the thought of another possible EP or a similar release of new music is still on the band’s mind and we might be getting some new music (as Chuck said) “at some point” in 2017 or maybe even in 2016!

If you remember – last year Simple Plan promised that we should finally be getting a new Christmas song by Simple Plan this year – and we even already know it’s title – ‘Christmas Every Day’ [Simple Plan’s last and only Christmas song so far was ‘My Christmas List’, released as a bonus track on certain versions of the bands first album in 2002]. So releasing it around e.g. beginning of December of this year ahead of the Christmas season would only make sense.

Chuck could also be thinking of an EP. If we look back to the ‘Get Your Heart On!’ era, the record was released in June 2011 and the band toured mostly in the second half of that year and the whole of 2012. That tour cycle was mostly prolonged by the huge success of the ‘Summer Paradise’, which came out in 2012. And in 2013, the band slowly finished with the tour cycle and when things started to cool down a bit, Simple Plan decided to release some of the already recorded, left-over songs from the recording process of GYHO, under the EP entitled ‘Get Your Heart On: The Second Coming’.

Now if we were to compare that tour to this one, the band has already stated the TOFTT tour cycle will most possibly end around summer of next year (even though there are no confirmed tour plans for 2017 as of yet – but there are rumors of summer festivals in Europe), which could mean there is a possibility of the band releasing some left-over songs from TOFTT possibly in a form of an EP around the end of 2017 – or even before that if they feel like it.

Would you like to hear “The Second Coming” of TOFTT?

Jeff weighs in on next Simple Plan EP/album release debate

If you’ve read practically any of the recent interviews with Simple Plan, I’m sure you’ve noticed that in almost all of them, the interviewees tend to mention the 5-year-gap between Get Your Heart On! (2011) and Simple Plan’s new album Taking One For The Team (2016). The reasoning behind the seemingly long time between these records has been caused by Simple Plan’s non-stop touring between 2011 and 2013, which was followed by a year of time off & writing and then the remaining time, during which the band recorded the album and then the follow-up post-production [along with additional recording sessions].

During these 5 years, of course, the fans haven’t been exactly without any new Simple Plan music. The band released an EP, titled ‘Get Your Heart On: The Second Coming!’ (2013) which featured 7 unreleased tracks, previously written for Get Your Heart On!. This EP served as a bridge between SP’s fourth and fifth record and also as a way for the band to give the fans something to be excited about while they’re waiting for a full-length album.

The members of the band have already been asked many times in the past few months, whether they are thinking about releasing another EP with b-sides left over from the writing sessions of Taking One For The Team and the usual answer so far has been that they are still thinking about it. Mostly, it’s still very early after the release of their new record, so the band definitely doesn’t plan on releasing any new album/EP anytime soon. However this question has once again been presented to Jeff in a recent interview with MTV Brazil and as you can see, there seems to be a lot of debate regarding this topic within the band – sometimes even possibly with different opinions on the topic:

MTV Brazil: I heard that after the tour, you will release an EP with the songs that did not make this album, is that true?

Jeff: Yeah, I heard a rumor about it! But I don’t know if I want that. It’s a possibility.

Personally, I think we should focus on recording new songs sooner and not wait five years to launch a new record. But this is not a bad idea. The band is a democracy, everyone has to give their opinion, but I still prefer full-length albums. I love having the album in hand, and I do not want to let our fans wait five years again to hear new music.

What is YOUR opinion on this matter? Do you think the band should go back to writing a brand new full-length album sooner than the last time and skip the whole process of releasing an EP? Or you’d prefer them to tour longer, release a couple songs and then take a long time off and take their time to get back with album no.6 a couple years later? “Get Your Heart On – The Second Coming!” is officially out!

Welcome to December 3rd everyone! Today, Simple Plan are officially releasing their new EP – “Get Your Heart On – The Second Coming!” worldwide – digitally and in a physical form. The EP has been available for pre-order for a few days now and Australia got it even in the physical form already on November 29th.

The EP consists of 7 songs in total (Ordinary Life, The Rest Of Us, Outta My System, Fire In My Heart, In, Lucky One and Try), which have been written about 3 years ago during the songwriting process for “Get Your Heart On!” – Simple Plan’s 4th studio album. The first reviews of the EP have been very positive so far, giving it approximately 4,5 out of 5.

The booklet of the EP consists only of the front and back page. Check out the “thank you” part from the back side of the booklet of the EP:

“Thank you to the entire SP Family, SP Crew members and all the Astronauts worldwide for your love and support. You mean everything to us. We really hope you will enjoy these songs while we are working hard making a new album for you. Can’t wait to see you all at the shows!”

If you haven’t listened to it yet, the band has made a full stream of the EP available on YouTube, so you can check it out here:

Now let’s have a look at how the EP’s doing so far on iTunes charts, shall we?

At this moment, according to kworb.net, the EP is best selling in Mexico – where it holds the #5 spot in the best selling albums, the next is the Czech Republic which has the EP on #11 and the 3rd country that sells the EP the most digitally right now is Singapore at #13. Also, Simple Plan’s home country Canada has the EP on #17 right now. See the full list here.

While there’s currently no indication if the physical copies of the EP will be available anywhere else than in Canada and Australia (Japan will have it in January), you can definitely order it online wherever you live.

Here’s a couple of options you have:

Simple Plan will not perform songs off new EP in Australia

Yesterday in Sydney, Australia, Troy Culpan from May The Rock Be With You had the chance to interview Sebastien and Jeff from Simple Plan at Warped Tour. The interview is quite long and the boys talk about the new EP, being in a band for so long with no line-up changes etc. Below you can read an excerpt from it for which I picked the most interesting questions and answers. In them, Seb and Jeff talk about why the band sadly won’t be playing any of the newly released songs in Australia and also touch the subject of the long-awaited DVD, which is still in works.

Are you playing any of these new [songs] while in Australia?
Sébastien: We’re not, funny enough we haven’t had a chance to practise anything…
Jeff: *laughs*
Sébastien: We just came here and thought we’ve got sound check every day, and there’s no sound check and we’re like…
Both: Shit… *laughs*
Sébastien: But it turns out that a lot of fans that come they’ve been into the band from the very beginning so they really, really want to hear some old songs which we’re happy to play anyway…

Sarah wanted to know about the DVD, there were whispers about it and then nothing…
Jeff: Yeah what the fuck’s going on with that?
Sébastien: I have no idea, we filmed a whole show the last time we were in Australia, it’s gorgeous, it’s beautiful, we’re just trying to figure out how to release it, is it going to be a DVD? Is it going to be an online thing? We’re just in the midst of trying to figure that out…
Jeff: There’s just no more fuckin music stores, so where do you release it?

PHOTOS: Simple Plan on Top Musique and En Mode Salvail + new scoops

For Canadian Simple Plan fans, it was basically like Christmas yesterday as the whole band appeared on two evening shows on local TV channels. First, the members of Simple Plan dropped by at MusiquePlus, where they were interviewed for the “Top Musique” show and a couple hours later the guys headed to the Tele V studios for Eric Salvail’s “En Mode Salvail” show, where they also performed acoustically.

Check out the first picturs from the taping of both of the shows. Also, notice Chuck picking up the bass guitar on En Mode Salvail :)

As soon as the videos from the shows are anywhere available for watching, I will let you know. In the meantime, here’s two more scoops:

1. On Ca Commence Bien yesterday Chuck confirmed that the EP should be released either at the end of November or beginning of December and should include the final count of 7 songs in total (thanks Emelie and Charbel for letting me know).

2. While some fans expressed their disappointment with the more “poppy” sound of the newly released song, Chuck was quick to respond and not to judge the EP by one song and that the next (fifth) Simple Plan record should have more rock songs on it.
