A Chuck Comeau produced film about the resurgence of pop-punk to be released in 2017

Besides being a great drummer, Chuck Comeau from Simple Plan has always been very interested in the music business in general and as a result of that he is often the force and the mastermind behind most of Simple Plan’s endeavours. Now, he has decided to take his interest in his band’s music scene to the next level by getting involved as a producer in a new documentary film project by Epik films, which delves into the topic of the current resurgence of pop-punk.

Recent years, but especially 2016, have brought us an exceptional number of new records and a general growth of interest in the pop-punk scene. Not only by newer bands like State Champs or Neck Deep, but also by bands who have been the leaders of the original pop-punk era in the late 90s and early 00s, such as Blink 182, Green Day, Simple Plan, Yellowcard, Sum 41 or Good Charlotte. And it was exactly this matter that his band is also a part of that got Chuck interested in producing ‘Resurgence: A pop punk-umentary’.

The film is directed by Peter John, which finally answers us the question what this Australian director and his team were filming at the Simple Plan Australian and U.S. shows and why Peter John still keeps being seen alongside Chuck – such as at the recent Good Charlotte show in Los Angeles.

Check out our gallery now for the first picture from the behind the scenes from the filming of this documentary with Chuck:

Epik films have also already released a trailer for this film, which is scheduled to be released in 2017 (however, it is currently unknown by which medium it will be distributed). From this trailer we can tell that besides fans, the documentary will also feature a number of interviews with people tied to the music industry, such as Story Untold (who opened for SP in the U.S.), Mike Fishkin (Idobi radio host), members of Neck Deep, Chuck Comeau of course and many more. See the trailer for “Resurgence” below:

Simple Plan’s ‘Generation’ in the new promo of Survivor

Thanks to a couple of very observant fans, it has come to our attention that the American version of the ‘Survivor’ TV reality show that airs on CBS decided to use Simple Plan’s song ‘Generation’, from their self-titled album (2008), in the new promo for the show.

This new season of the show features two different tribes, each representing a different generation – millenials vs. generation X. Check out below how the creators of the show fittingly used Simple Plan’s ‘Generation’ in the promo:

RUMOR: Simple Plan to be back in studio in 2017?

In a recent interview for La Presse, Jeff Stinco once again discussed the band’s future plans regarding touring and making record no. 6. Once again, Jeff confirmed that the band plans on skipping their usual time off in between records and head over straight to works on their next album. In this La Presse interview though, Jeff also mentioned that their Taking One For The Team tour should come to close in May 2017, after which the article mentions the bands wants to go “back to studio” – still in 2017. Here’s an exact translation of an excerpt from the La Presse article:

Although the album Taking One For The Team was released in 2016, Simple Plan plan on going back to the studio next year. “The goal is not to take any break.”

Now, while this sounds very exciting, we should all be very cautious about this rumor. Judging by the fact that this information doesn’t come from a direct quote, but from the author’s article, this could very well just be a misunderstanding on La Presse’s part, as they might no know that Simple Plan never write their songs on tour and they always start the writing process after their time off. If Simple Plan were to stop touring in May 2017 and head straight to song-writing, chances are they will still continue writing in early 2018, which would make them enter the studio sometime that year. It is very unrealistic for Simple Plan to actually hit the recording studio next year, as that is almost the last part of the record making process, and the longest part is always the song-writing part. Not to mention, there is always the post-production, which could take another [at least] half a year.

What’s good news about this news is that we now have two confrmation from the band’s side already that they actually plan on working on their next album right after their tour ends. That could mean a much shorter time in between record five and six, which in today’s oh-so-quickly-changing music business is nothing but a very good plan.

Release of Taking One For The Team vinyl postponed to September

[note: this image is only a mock-up – actual image of the TOFTT vinyl has not been released yet]

Back in June, SimplePlan.cz was the first to inform that Simple Plan’s latest studio album – ‘Taking One For The Team’ would be released on a vinyl. At that point, various European multimedia retailers put up Taking One For The Team as a vinyl up on their websites, stating the LP would become available on August 5th or 6th. With this date being just a few days away and with no vinyl announcement from the band yet, it was time to check out these retailers again for some updated info.

Turns out that for an unknown reason, the release date of the ‘Taking One For The Team’ vinyl has been postponed until September 2nd – which is being reported both on the Norweigan store and also the Swedish store. The price still remains the same – 179 Swedish crowns or 149 Norwegian crowns, which equals to approximately €15.7 to €19.7 or $17.6 to $22.1.

The band is yet to confirm the release of the vinyl, however Jeff has previously hinted on the release a number of times through his tweets.

Canadian newspaper prints a cartoon of Simple Plan

On his Instagram, Jeff published an image of a cartoon posted in a local newspaper (assumingly Journal de Montreal), which discusses Simple Plan’s upcoming show in Sept-Îles, where the band will perform on August 7th.

The cartoon, created by a well-known Canadian caricaturist Métyvié, makes fun of Simple Plan touring everywhere but Canada until now. It depicts the members of Simple Plan being told they are playing in Sept-Îles by a “manager” – the joke behind David’s answer is he was born in Sept-Îles. The English translation of the cartoon would be as follows (thanks Emilie):

“Manager”: OK guys! After Tokyo and Los Angeles, you’ll play here on August 7th!
David: Hm! That sounds familiar!
