Simple Plan gave fans an update regarding their bassist David Desrosiers

For over a year now, Simple Plan’s bass player David Desrosiers has not been touring with his band after his last year’s announcement that he need to take a bit of a time off to focus on his mental health and to fight depression. Since then, with David’s blessing, Simple Plan have been touring as a foursome (Chuck, Seb, Jeff and Pierre), while their friend David was at home trying to get better.

Luckily, the Simple Plan fans have been very compassionate in this situation and showed enormous support to David and the band overall in their time of need. Yesterday, Simple Plan decided to talk about this situation again on their Instagram and gave the fans some update on how David’s doing and showed their appreciation of their fans’ compassion.

Check out the full post by Simple Plan about David’s future involvement in the band’s activities below:

We want to thank all our fans around the world who have been supporting David over the last year and a half while he’s been battling with depression. Whether you’ve been holding up signs at the shows, writing him letters or posting comments here on Instagram or on our other social media accounts, please know that David and us truly appreciate your concern and words of encouragement.

A lot of you have been asking us to post an update on how David is doing and when he will be joining us on tour again.

The truth is, we don’t know exactly when he will be ready to come back and play shows with us. David is still at home resting and trying to get better. Mental health and recovery is a long and complicated process and the last thing we want is to put any pressure on David or rush him to come back when he’s not healthy enough. We wish we had more news to share, but as of now, our only goal is trying to support David and give him the space and time he needs to get better. We ask that you keep on showing him love and compassion in this difficult time. With his blessing, we will keep on performing shows as a 4-piece until he’s able to join us and perform again.

Thank you all for understanding and for being the best fans a band could ever ask for.

Sao Paulo: Chuck’s new drumkit design & sign surprise & on-stage marriage proposal

Simple Plan’s tour across Brazil continues and last night the band dropped by the city of Sao Paulo, where they were looking forward to greeting all 3000 fans who have managed to sell out the Audio venue.

And they were in for a night full of surprises! Firstly, some fans might have noticed that Chuck didn’t use his regular No Pads transparent bass drum head, but instead kicked the show off with a new simple ‘SP’ on a black background [see the picture above] on his bass drum head (thanks Bruno for the info). Will he keep it for the rest of the tour? We’ll see!

As far as the show itself concerns, the fans surprised the band with a bunch of ‘David is here’ signs during Addicted to show their support of the band’s bass player, who currently remains home, where he’s doing his best at battling depression.

And finally, during the intermission between Boom! and Jet Lag in the encore part of the concert, Pierre invited a fan on stage, who got on his knee to propose to his girlfriend. Surrounded by loud emotional cheers and applause, the couple became another pair, who got engaged on a Simple Plan stage. Check out the cute moment on the video captured by SP:BR below:

After these exhausting three shows in Brazil, the members of Simple Plan can now rest for two days before their next gig, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday. In the meantime, check out all of the new pictures from last night’s show in Sao Paulo, Brazil:

Main Event VIP upgrade: What is the new fan experience at Simple Plan concerts like?

On the Australian tour in April, Simple Plan introduced a brand new type of a VIP upgrade at their shows called the ‘Main Event’. Similarly to the already established Post-Game (‘Pizza Party’), fans can enhance their experience at a Simple Plan show by purchasing this upgrade, which gives them a chance to meet the members of the band and various other little perks.

As of right now, Simple Plan seem to be offering four types of ‘fan experiences’ during the day of the show on their tour: Soundcheck Party (takes place before the show, exclusive to SP Crew members only), Pre-Game (takes place before the show, must be purchased extra), Main Event (takes place right before the show and during it, must be purchased extra) and Post-Game (takes place after the show, also must be purchased extra, also known as ‘Pizza Party’). And since the Soundcheck and Pizza parties have already been established on the past few tours, let’s have a look at the new addition to the available fan experiences: the Main Event, which will also be available on the upcoming Simple Plan tour in South America!

Sally from Australia got back to us on social media when we were looking for any attendees of the Main Event on the recent tour and thanks to her, we can now check out what the Main Event, which promises the fans to be able to watch the show from side-stage, is actually all about and how was it compared to the other fan experiences that SP offer.

Check out this exclusive look at Main Event in Sydney from the words of its attendee Sally:

When I arrived at the venue, I checked in at the box office and was given a meet & greet backstage pass. The instructions that were emailed to me said to meet Chady at the sound desk at 8pm (after the opening acts). There I met up with the other Main Event participants – 10 of us all together. We waited, keeping an eye out for Chady but it ended up being Danny, the tour manager, that came to find us. He took us backstage and explained that we needed to respect that this was their space and we needed to stay inside the designated area side-stage.

Jeff, Seb and Chuck before the show, getting ready to walk up on stage in Sydney.

He then went to make sure the guys were ready to meet us. We went in and were greeted with hugs and high fives. We spent about 10 minutes chatting and taking photos before we made our way to the stage. We went on first and waited. The lights went down, the show started. I think this was an amazing place to view the show from – bonus being that we didn’t get squashed in the mosh pit. [We just needed to] be careful of the cords and things running around where we were and also needed to stay out of Chris’ way as we were right next to all of Seb’s guitars. So you can imagine he was busy working to make sure all that stuff ran smoothly.

Sally’s view from side-stage as a Main Event attendee.

[The group photo on stage] happened between I think Summer Paradise and Crazy. The photo looks like a much bigger group than what it actually is, because the guys pulled some people up out of the crowd for it as well.

After the show we waited on stage for Danny to come get us. He took us backstage again and gave us our t-shirt, signed setlist and guitar picks. Then he showed us back to the main floor area.

I think it was worth the money. It was a lot more intimate group than at soundcheck or at the pizza party, so there was more time for each person.”

Since the upcoming South American No Pads tour will be the last proper headlining tour Simple Plan have planned for the rest of the year with only Warped Tour and some festival appearances until they start working on a new record, Main Event will be available only on the upcoming dates in Brazil this year.

Some VIP upgrades are already sold-out on certain upcoming shows – so make sure to secure your upgrade ticket while you can! Post-Game is still available in Buenos Aires, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro and Uberlandia. Main Event is still available only in Porto Alegre and Curitiba. If you’d like to upgrade your ticket to a VIP experience on the South American tour, visit this website, where you can find out more about the Main Event ($195), Pre-Game ($145) and Post-Game ($145).

Fan story #4: Ondra, Czech Republic

SimplePlan.cz’s brand new project “Fan stories” features a series of fans’ submitted memories from their own experience of meeting the members of Simple Plan in the past. You can check out all previously published fan stories here or you can even submit yours here.

This week’s fan story is brought to you by Ondra from the Czech Republic. Ondra, who often goes by the English version of his name “Andrew” has met Simple Plan several times over the past few years and has been known by the band as “the tall guy”. Check out his own recollection of the first time he’s met SP:

ONDRA (25), CZECH REPUBLIC

“I’ve been listening to the Canadian band Simple Plan for about 12 to 13 years now and the first time I heard them, it was clear to me that this band is somehow very special and interesting. I didn’t know what the song that kept being played on the radio at that time was called and who the band even was. But when I finally found ut the song was called ‘Welcome To My Life’, I started getting to know something about the artist too.

I think I found out the name of the band from the radio station, or when the musiv video was played on TV and one day I tried looking up Welcome To My Life online and was finally able to listen to more songs are really get to know how special this band was.

I never knew that American (sic!) bands tour all around the world, so I always thought that if I were to ever see them play live, I would have to travel to the U.S. The hardest moment for me was when I found out Simple Plan were to play in Prague, Czech Republic and I wasn’t able to come. I couldn’t attend the second show in Prague either because of school stuff but I knew that after I was done with school, I would enjoy shows so much more.

The photo I enclosed is from my very first Simple Plan show at the one-day festival called Rock’n Heim in Germany (2015). This festival is carved into my memory as an incredible experience, since I traveled all across Germany to see Simple Plan and seven more bands, including Linkin Park.

A day on the road can be hectic for various reasons. It took us a while to find our accommodation and I also still didn’t know whether I was meeting Simple Plan or not. That’s why I was jumping for joy when I got a text from Dominika (SimplePlan.cz), who told me I would be attending the meet & greet with Simple Plan there! And that day of great news continued when I got a reply from Chuck on Twitter.

The impossible became reality! From the moment I entered the festival grounds, I started searching for where the meet & greet with Simple Plan would be taking place. The security and the festival’s promoters told me that I was making stuff up, so I decided to go to the merch stand and just waited till anybody arrived. A few minutes later fans started gathering around the merch area, so I started to relax. After that, Sim from Simple Plan’s crew got there and organized the whole meeting with the band and after about 15 minutes, we were able to enter the backstage area.

My first impression of seeing the guys stand beside me was truly incredible. It seemed as if we’ve known each other already. I loved how Chuck immediately informed me that he just wrote me on Twitter and the rest of the guys were also very friendly and willing to chat to everyone.

The fans were alright but my favorite moment was when the guys came up on the stage, started playing Jet Lag and Pierre pointed at me several times and Seb kept saying stuff like: “I hope you guys get front row… buy YOU will probably see anyway, since you’re so tall!”

Fan story #3: Kayla, Canada

SimplePlan.cz’s brand new project “Fan stories” features a series of fans’ submitted memories from their own experience of meeting the members of Simple Plan in the past. You can check out all previously published fan stories here or you can even submit yours here.

This week we continue with our next fan story, that has been submitted by Kayla from Canada, who met Simple Plan in 2015 and 2017. In her story, she recounts her meetings with the members of Simple Plan and how she managed to get something signed by David at a pizza party despite him not attending them:

KAYLA (18), CANADA

“Ever since I was 3 or 4 I have been a huge fan of Simple Plan. When Warped Tour back in 2015 came around, I stood in a long line to meet Simple Plan for the first time. I hung out with Seb & David for an hour and we talked about everything and how much I love their music :) I asked them if they would ever play in Canada, as of that’s where I am from and they made a promise that they would come back.

Months passed and I found out Simple Plan was playing in Windsor, Ontario and I thought I would never win tickets as of the thought I never win anything… But I entered a contest at a radio show and in the middle of class I got a call saying I won 2 free tickets to see my favorite band. I went to the concert but only stayed a little.

A few more months have passed and my mom found out Simple Plan was coming to London, Ontario as of that I thought I would never see them again. I got a call saying that I was not only seeing them but going backstage to meet them. November came, but since Pierre had something going on, they had to reschedule the concert to March. March came and I’ve seen my idols in concert. I cried when they sang ‘This Song Saved My Life’ and ‘Perfectly Perfect’.

The time went by and I finally got to meet Simple Plan again but got to take more pictures. When I met Seb, he remembered me from Warped Tour and that I also hit him in the face with a beach ball on stage. I cried and he hugged me and asked why I was crying. I said “You guys are my heroes and you guys saved my life many times.” He was touched by my message.

When I found out David doesn’t attend the VIP parties, I started crying because he is my favorite member of Simple Plan. So my mom talked to a crew member to see if David could sign my poster. He then came back 20 minutes later with my poster and it said: “Kayla, Stay Strong” :) I was so happy I was crying.

The time came to where I got to meet Jeff and we had some heart to heart conversations and we got to know each other more and more. I also met Pierre and I had some funny moments with him. I met Chuck and he said he remembered me from Warped Tour and we stood and talked. I gave them each a stuffed animal and they were touched that I thought to give them something, plus a poster I hand-made with pictures of me & them on it from Warped Tour. The time came to take the group photo with the band – I was last because there was such a big line. When I got up there, I only had a t-shirt on and they thought I would freeze outside because it was still winter and it was very cold out. Seb offered me his sweater, but I did not take it because I felt like I would be taking his sweater home and forget to give it to him. I then got offered to go to the tour bus to visit David but I was too nervous and had anxiety and it was a drive to go back home. I told them next time. They were all so funny and sweet to me :) I am happy I met them not once but twice :) maybe if they come back to London, Ontario I can meet them again.”
