Portland show: Simple Plan stop show for 15 minutes after fan goes into epileptic seizure

Friday’s show in Portland was another one that SimplePlan.cz had its own correspondent present – Kristína – so prepare for another extensive recap of this sold-out show.

Some of the members of SP had their girlfriends, wives and children there, so naturally they wanted to spend as much time together as possible. According to Kristína, Chuck and his son London could have been seen together running alongside the stage and even in the photo pit before the set even started. And at the end of the show, Chuck even let London throw the last drumstick into the crowd.

The whole No Pads part of the show was going according to plan, everybody was having fun and the guys were giving it all they got. No wonder the guys themselves called it one of the best shows they played in a while. During the show, Pierre managed to get into a rather amusing situation, when he came up on stage and said this was the first time Simple Plan were playing this venue (Crystal Ballroom). A fan in the crowd however shouted back at him that they played the exact same venue last time they were in Portland, so Pierre responded: “Oh, okay, you probably know this stuff better than I do.” And turned to the whole crowd with the same excitement as earlier, shouting: “This is our SECOND TIME playing this venue!!”

On a more serious note however, when the encore’s “biggest hits” came around and after the initial Shut Up the second encore song Jump came rolling in, a girl in front row collapsed, forcing the band immediately stopped the show. It then took almost 15 minutes before they could resume it again. Below you can read how Kristína, who stood very close to the girl, recounted this part of the show to us:

“The guys were in the midst of ‘Jump’ when suddenly a girl in front row, who stood about 3 people away from me, went into a (I guess epileptic) seizure. She started shaking so much she eventually fell on the floor. Everybody immediately formed a big circle around her and created a corridor for security. The guys stopped playing and nobody knew what to do, because she didn’t just ‘faint’, where you more or less just need water to pick you up. So for about the first two minutes, it was pretty much all just chaos, nobody knew what to do (besides making that space around her), until a girl from backstage ran up to her and had paramedics on the phone, who told her what to do with the girl. After a few minutes, firefighters also came, as well as finally some paramedics and in the end she was okay, but the show had to be stopped for about 15 minutes.”

Despite this experience, Kristína says it was a fantastic show and pointed out that it was not just because of the great performances of all four bands (The Bottom Line, Patent Pending, Set It Off and Simple Plan), but also because of the people working at the Crystal Ballroom venue that night – namely the security, which was very helpful and took care of the crowd as best as they could, handing out water to the exhausted fans and making sure everyone was ok.

Simple Plan share their favorite moments of the tour so far

As of right now, Simple Plan are 5 shows in the second part of the U.S. No Pads tour and besides the cancelation of two Texas dates, the tour is going quite amazing: out of the 5 shows SP already played, 4 of them were sold out and 5 out of 5 were amazing.

The guys did a little recap video of the good times they’ve had on the tour so far and you can check it out below:

The one Texas show that did happen: photos and setlist from Dallas, TX

Before Simple Plan had to postpone the remainder of their Texas shows (Houston and Austin) due to the weather conditions brought by hurricane Harvey, they managed to play one show in this American state – in Dallas. A few pictures already popped up on the Internet from this concert and below you can also have a look at what the setlist of the show – and this American No Pads tour – looked like.

If we compare this setlist to the European No Pads tour setlist, we can see that there are some minor differences between the encore songs, which are supposed to include the band’s “greatest hits” from albums 2-5. And since these albums were perceived differently in Europe and America, this might be the reason behind why Summer Paradise (a massive hit in Europe, while not as popular in the U.S.) was omitted in the U.S. setlist – and replaced with the more emotional – This Song Saved My Life. The setlist also doesn’t feature Jet Lag, which the band performed at a number of gigs in Europe.

It is quite safe to assume that the band will be following this setlist for the rest of the No Pads tour, possibly only changing a song or two in the encore. Check it out below:

1. I’d Do Anything
2. The Worst Day Ever
3. You Don’t Mean Anything
4. I’m Just A Kid
5. When I’m With You
6. Meet You There
7. Addicted
8. My Alien
9. God Must Hate Me
10. I Won’t Be There
11. One Day
12. Grow Up
13. Perfect

Encore:
14. Shut Up!
15. Jump
16. Boom
17. Your Love Is A Lie
18. This Song Saved My Life
19. Crazy
20. Welcome To My Life

Simple Plan forced to postpone Houston & Austin shows due to hurricane Harvey

Earlier today we reported that at the time, the band had still hoped that things would turn out in their favor and even despite the hurricane warnings in Texas, tonight’s Houston show would go as planned. However after careful consideration, due to hurricane Harvey being classified as category 3 hurricane now (could cause structural damage to buildings) and with everyone’s safety in mind, it has been decided that the Simple Plan show in Houston, TX would not be happening today and later updated that the show in Austin would also not be happening.

The band released a statement regarding the cancelation of the show – however, Simple Plan are already working on rescheduled shows for Houston and Austin and therefore purchased tickets remain valid for the next show. Read the statement below:

“Due to Hurricane Harvey, our shows in Houston and Austin are now officially postponed. Fans’ safety is our number one priority and after careful consideration, it was decided that this was the right thing to do for everyone involved. We are extremely sorry for this unfortunate turn of events and for any inconvenience this may cause. We are already working on finding a replacement date for the show and will announce the details as soon as possible. All tickets will be honored for the new dates. Thanks for your understanding and we look forward to playing for you.

Please be careful and stay safe.

Pierre, Jeff, Seb and Chuck also released the following video, apologizing to local fans:

No Pads tour continues: Cincinnati, OH & Indianapolis, IN

This weekend, Simple Plan hit another two U.S. cities with their 15th anniversary No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls tour, which celebrates their debut album from 2002. On Saturday, Simple Plan performed in Cincinnati, OH and Sunday was reserved for Indianapolis, IN. Check out the atmosphere at both of these SP shows on the first pictures in our gallery:

As always, Pierre & Chuck continue with their drummer/singer switcheroo skit on this tour, when during Grow Up, Pierre goes behind the drums and Chuck “sings” instead (but rather jumps into the crowd and crowdsurfs for a bit). Usually, Pierre’s doing quite a great job at drumming, however last night in Indianapolis, he did mess up a little bit. And this funny video came out of it. Check it out below:

When the singer tries to be the drummer. 😣😣😣 I guess @chuckcomeau still has a job. #epicfail #choke
