Jeff reconfirms Simple Plan heading to studio in January

As we’ve learned from an interview with Jeff about a month ago, Simple Plan are planning to start recording their new album, for which they’ve been writing songs for over a year now, in January. And it looks like the band is still sticking to this plan, as Jeff reconfirmed in a recent interview for Argent.

Apart from the date of the return to the studio, Jeff also mentioned that 99% of the songs have already been written and also talked a bit about the recent Simple Plan Foundation benefit event.

Simple Plan discuss 5th album in a new interview

After they accepted the YMCA Peace medal for their charitable work with the Simple Plan Foundation on Friday, the members of Simple Plan gave an interview to Salut, Bonjour!. In this interview, the band discussed the received award, the benefit event that took place on Sunday and also the status of their upcoming album.

Thanks to Sab, here’s some things the guys mentioned in this French interview:

– Pierre said they’ve been writing songs for about one year now, they have 40-50 of them and “3 of them aren’t that bad.”

– They say that the writing process is as painful as it is fun. But Pierre adds that it’s thank to these “break-through” moments that they end up with the best songs.

– He explains that they are kind of slow to release their albums because they do everything. They don’t have anyone to write the songs for them or anything like some other bands who only have to pick the songs they like. SP write the lyrics, the music, and then they choose the best ones.

– “The waiting is worth it, it comes from us, it’s our ideas, our lives.” – Chuck Comeau

Recap of Simple Plan Foundation benefit event

Saying that this year’s Simple Plan Foundation benefit event was a success would be an understatement. Not only has the event been sold-out for weeks now, the band also announced the highest amount of donations – over $300 000, which will be going to various charitable organizations dealing with youth, including for example Montreal’s Children Hospital ($15 000). In total since the beginning, Simple Plan Foundation has raised over 1.5 million dollars for a good cause.

During the announcement of this year’s donations at a press conference that preceeded the event, Jay Bouvier, Pierre’s brother, who’s struggle with cancer led Pierre to write the song “Save You”, appeared on the stage with the band and gave a testimony on the Foundation’s contribution to the Maisoneuve-Rosemont hospital.

Check out the following video from CTV Montreal that features a report about this event and also Pierre, his brother Jay and his parents talking about the Simple Plan Foundation:

After the attendees of the benefit event were let in, they had the opportunity to take part in a silent auction (including such items as signed Mark Hoppus bass or shoes signed bz members of All Time Low), take a picture with the band and later on also attend a concert of Marie-Mai and then finally Simple Plan. Simple Plan’s performance included songs such as Jet Lag (feat. Marie-Mai), Perfect, Lucky One, The Rest Of Us and also introduced a brand new song called “Boom”, which they performed acoustically [click here to watch a video of this song].
